"I would like to paint the way a bird sings.”

Intent
At Trinity All Saints Primary School, it is our intention to provide a high-quality art education that provides children with the foundations they need to recognise the importance of art and how it goes beyond the classroom. Our curriculum will enable children to broaden their horizons as children will have many opportunities to learn about a wide range of artists, both male and female, ranging from varying backgrounds, throughout their time at Trinity All Saints. As a result, children will develop critical thinking of artists and their work and value art in its entirety.
Teachers will ensure that all children are exposed to high quality teaching and learning experiences as we aim to nurture and celebrate each child’s spirituality and individuality by ensuring we provide multiple opportunities for a child to express themselves through their own artwork.
Children will be encouraged to take risks within their own artwork and be brave, be bold and be passionate about the skills which they are developing from each year at Trinity All Saints. Our art curriculum aims to make a difference in each child’s life through developing resilience as, like many artists, they will have to learn from their mistakes to perfect their craft to their best ability.
Implementation
Trinity All Saints use their own unit plans which have been adapted from ‘Developing a curriculum for Art and Design.’ This allows teachers to ensure that planning is sequenced, skills are being developed upon whilst having purposeful artist links. This is a bespoke progression framework which focusses on 3 key artist skills such as:
- Painting.
- Drawing.
- Sculpture.
Each year, skills are built upon and knowledge is secured and developed through the work of ‘Link it’ where children are asked to reflect on prior learning and how it will support their learning in future projects.
Each unit of learning follows the same sequence of learning:
Sketchbooks are used to track progress and are used throughout the school from Reception to Year 6. Children are encouraged to take pride in their work by ensuring presentation is neat, art vocabulary is being used and evaluations are being used throughout to allow children to become critical thinkers of their artwork and others.
The importance of using local artists as well as showcasing artists from a wide range of backgrounds is crucial in our art curriculum. This allows children to be exposed to a wide range of artists as well as realising that art is for ALL!
