Nursery children start part-time the term after they are three years old.
The nursery is led by Miss Golledge our Nursery Teacher. We work to provide a happy and fun learning environment for all children, developing independence, motivation, creativity and confidence. We welcome parents views, support and contributions towards their children’s learning as it is proven that children are higher achieving when parents are involved in their child’s education.
Children in our nursery enjoy a challenging but supportive environment. We have daily structured activities and a circle time teaching input which caters to the needs and interests of each child and allows them to work at their own individual level of development. This learning can then be consolidated or extended further by children playing in our carefully planned learning environment.
Our children ‘learn how to learn’ in Nursery. We want them to enjoy gaining new skills, knowledge and to enjoy coming to school. We aim to give children the self motivation skills to want to read and write for pleasure, to find out and investigate, to respect others and resolve conflict, to be curious to learn, find out new things and to explore their creativity through art, dance and imagination. We do this in a practical, hands on and exciting way using early years themes and topics.
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
The curriculum is split up into seven areas of learning;
The prime areas:
Personal social and emotional development - Making relationships, Self confidence and self awareness and managing feelings and behaviour.
Physical development - Moving and handling and health and self care.
Communication and language - Listening and attention, understanding and speaking.
The prime areas of learning are integral to all learning and are interweaved in all aspects of the curriculum.
The specific areas:
Literacy - Reading and writing.
Mathematics - Numbers, Shape space and measures.
Understanding the world - People and communities, the world and Technology.
Expressive arts and design - Exploring and using media and materials and being imaginative.
The specific areas of learning are important skills and knowledge that your child needs to know in order to participate in society.
We welcome all parents and carers into our Nursery. We believe it is important for parents and carers to be involved in their children’s education. We value the learning that has already started at home and the role parents and carers play as their child’s first educators. We aim to work together with parents and carers to build on the learning that has already started at home, by developing and extending the children’s skills, fostering their natural curiosity and by enabling them to build a deeper knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.
“Parental involvement is having a loving, respectful,
conversational relationship with your child.”
