Trinity 2 - Year 3/4
Welcome to Year 3/4
Hello Ash and Birch class.
We hope you are well and are staying safe during this crazy time.
Below you will find various attachment links for the lessons this week in English, maths, and any resources for the afternoon lessons (topic, science, RE).
Maths:-
We are going to continue to use the White Rose scheme of learning for our maths lessons. This half term we will continue to learn about multiplication and division using formal methods to solve. Both the PowerPoint and activity sheets for each day will be attached below.
You can visit https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ for video lessons each day if you miss the Zoom lesson. Check here first for which work we've set so you can match to the video, as we're slightly out of sync with the days on the White Rose website.
Please remember to continue to log in to TTRockstars daily to practice your times tables recall. Remember; the quicker the time, the better!
English:-
This half term we will be writing adventure stories based on our new class novel. Hopefully you predicted correctly that it is...The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe!! We will be doing regular reading activities, including comprehension questions and chapter summaries, as well as writing linked to the story. Some of you may have this book, but there is a PDF copy of the book attached below so you don't need to have a physical copy.
Reading is still incredibly important, so please continue to read every day, with an adult when possible, and complete an AR quiz whenever you finish a book. This can be reading books from home as well as your school books. There are a lot of exciting free e-books you can also access - see the following link:- https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/
Make sure you access Accelerated Reader using this link : https://ukhosted72.renlearn.co.uk/2250112/

Our topic this half term is Journeys! We will be having a weekly zoom lesson based on this topic. In geography, we will be learning about...Volcanoes, Mountains and Earthquakes!!! There will also be some art and music activities based on this topic, and on our class text.

Topic 25.1.21
Go through the new PowerPoint below. There are also some cards for you to sort into reasons 'for' living near a volcano and reasons 'against' - just do this verbally if you don't have a printer.
Tourism is a major reason for lots of people living near volcanoes. Follow this link: https://www.nps.gov/media/webcam/view.htm?id=81B46883-1DD8-B71B-0BAB3C16A35AFE3F to see a webcam of the geyser Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park, USA (refreshes the image every minute). Yellowstone is a 'super-volcano' and has many geysers (vents from various parts of the volcano). Also explore the Yellowstone website to see what else attracts tourists to visit!
Now choose one of these activities:
- Create a poster advertising Yellowstone as a tourism spot.
- Create a postcard as though you’re visiting Yellowstone. Detail the things around you, using all your senses. The picture on the front of the postcard should show one of the geysers.
- Create a brochure for Yellowstone. Detail all the things visitors can experience and all the positives for visiting a volcano.
You could also create a map of the position of volcanoes around the world!

Science:- 19.01.21
In school today, the children will be observing different types of rocks. They will take part in an experiment predicting whether they think the particular rock is waterproof or porous, and explaining their prediction, before carrying out the experiment.
If you have access to a garden, woodland area etc ... somewhere were you can collect a variety of rocks, then please complete the experiment at home, completing the recording sheet attached.
However, if you are unable to access different types of rocks, your task is to create a poster informing your audience / reader of the different types of rocks / how soil is formed. Make sure your poster is bright and eye - catching.
If you have access to a laptop, you could maybe create your poster on Microsoft publisher or create a PowerPoint based on the different types of rocks and soils. Include as many facts as you can!

RE 27.1.21
Think about the 'Journey of Life' we talked about in the first week. Where does it start? Where does it end? What might people experience on their ‘journey’? What might be the 'signposts' in life? What tells us which way to go? Think about religious and non-religious aspects. E.g. Christians following the teachings of Jesus, Muslims following the Quran, different religious laws, and non-religious laws that we all must follow daily. On the ‘Journey of Life’, where might we have a ‘traffic jam’? What might throw our ‘journey’ off course?
When you've thought about all these questions, create a map to show the 'Journey of Life' for somebody. Choose whether it's for someone who is Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, or non-religious as this will change some things they experience in life - link the ceremonies we've learnt so far.
